4. Toyota Logistic Design Competition 2024
Deadline: December 18, 2023 00:00 CET
Eligibility: the competition is open to university design students and recent graduates (2023) from all over the world. Only participants who belong to an undergraduate or graduate university programme are eligible to compete. Although the competition is focused on industrial design, product design and transportation design, students with a background in business, fashion, engineering, architecture etc. are also welcome to submit their work.
The Toyota Logistic Design Competition is looking for concepts that strike a delicate balance between the lofty and visionary on the one hand. At the same time, they must both be realistic and possible to implement.
The target year for your inventions is 2024
The technology your ideas rely on is either here or the near future. The judges will be paying extra attention to process innovation and the tools used in the design work.
Other important bits include a compelling narrative, scenario and storytelling. Not least important – as always – is your general presentation and aesthetics.
Submissions should include a 2D or 3D representation of the object, along with a description of the design concept and how circular economy and logistics were incorporated.
The submission should also include a sustainability report outlining the environmental impacts of the object’s production, use, and end-of-life scenarios.
The challenge: promoting circular economy through logistics
You know the idea that the death of one thing gives life to another. But the death of our planet (which is under serious threat, according to science) won’t give rise to a new one. As far as we know.
Therefore, the challenge this time around is promoting a circular economy through logistics. Possibly a bigger challenge than in any of the previous editions. This means traditional design submissions are simply not going to be enough. You need to widen your scope. Big time.
Toyota Logistic Design Competition Categories
You can apply in one of three categories. The winner of each category will receive a cash prize of 5,500 Euros and have the opportunity to showcase their design at a sustainability event. Let’s go circular!
Vehicle/Transportation and Industrial/Product design
New ideas and designs for means of transport and products that promote circularity and sustainability in the logistics and mobility area.
User interface, User experience design and Service design
New ideas for apps, digital services and IOT that can promote circularity and sustainability in the logistics and mobility area.
Business innovation design
New ideas for revenue streams, business cases and completely new business proposals that promote circularity and sustainability in the mobility and logistics area.
